WAT:Hypertrophic gastropathy
FEATURES:Hyperplasia of surface mucous cells with accompanying glandular atrophy.As a result,there s giant cerebriform enlargement of the rugal folds of the gastric mucosa.
SYMPTOMS:asymptomatic [OH NO] OR epigastric discomfort,diarrhea, weight loss,bleeding due to superficial rugal erosions{AHHAAA}
CAUSE:growth factor overexpression in superficial gastric epithelium
OTHER POINTS:male:female ratio-3:1,in 4th-6th decade of life mostly.
CLINICAL:1.may mimic infiltrative carcinoma or lymphoma...2.risk of peptic ulcer increased
COMPLICATIONS:1.glandular atrophy-->achlorhydria..
2.protein loss in gastric secretions-->protein losing gastroenteropathy
3.mucosal hypertrophy-metaplastic change-->gastric ca.
