Default Usmle Fail Vs Pass - Chances of getting residency

Does more than one attempt worsen the chances of securing a residency? are there programmes that specifically ask for first attempters only?

Well... it does worsen your chances. But you can cover them up with great score on next attempt and making ur CV look excellent with publications and research. Not all but many programs need first attempt..

I was also wondering that. Like if you are taking the test and you are very sick. are you better off just leaving the exam and repeating it, or should you just try to finish even though you will probably have a difficult time focusing?

Once you start the exam, it will be considered as 1st attempt. Instead if you are sick, better don't appear for the exam in the scheduled date, you can take it at a later date.

    Cheers!
