Kingsnorth A. Majeed A A
Hardcover. 460 pages. Published Jul 01
Greenwich Medical Media. ISBN 18411000196

Principles of Surgical Practice builds on the success of Fundamentals of Surgical Practice, and has been designed to meet the needs of Basic Surgical Trainees approaching the via part of the Final Assessment, which test their knowledge of operative surgery, intensive care and pathology. The editors have drawn upon the experience a team of recognised experts and experienced surgical trainers to provide their perspective on the various aspects of surgical management in chapters, presented in a way that makes learning as efficient as possible but containing sufficient detail to cover all aspects of the viva examination. Principles of Surgical Practice is indispensable to the Basic Surgical Trainee, and will also provide the established surgeon and other healthcare professionals working in the surgical environment with an overview of the key principles underpinning modern surgical practice.

Default Intercollegiate MRCS Revision Notes

These revision notes have been written to aide candidates preparing for postgraduate surgical
examinations, in particular the Intercollegiate MRCS and have been prepared to complement
standard surgical textbooks. They have been edited to the same format as the MRCS syllabus
and are presented as a unique combination of notes and bullet points. Each section has a
bibliography of recently published review and original articles which have been selected for their
relevance and readability. Pressure of space has necessitated a selective approach to the
topics included. It is however, hoped that along with the Royal College of Surgeons of England
STEP Course, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh SELECT Course and standard
surgical texts they will prove a useful revision tool. Variations in surgical practice will inevitably
mean that there will be disagreement with some of the views and recommendations presented.
In these contencious areas an attempt has been made to include opinions that are not too
extreme and will hopefully satisfy most examiners.

To complement the book, a web site has been established with clinical images, x-rays,
pathology slides, a selection of clinical and basic science multiple choice questions and reviews
of recent papers and much more.

Both the web site and these notes have evolved with time. Publishing these notes on the
internet has allowed them to be updated on a regular basis. In order for them to remain
relevant to trainees’ needs it is essential that feedback is received from both trainees and
trainers regarding their format and content. If you have suggestions or comments they will
gladly be received.

Book Description:
An understanding of critical care is vital to the modern surgeon, who is often responsible for patients requiring intensive care or high-dependency support. Key Questions in Surgical Critical Care has been designed as a companion to Surgical Critical Care, by Robert Ashford and Neal Evans, and is split into two main sections, multiple choice questions and viva topics. Based on the syllabus of the Royal College of Surgeons, each of these two sections is further subdivided into six sub-sections covering the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system, other systems and multisystem failure, problems in intensive care, principles of intensive care and practical procedures. The MCQs and viva topics provided are typical of those appearing in the MRCS examination, and the authors provide detailed explanatory notes to accompany each answer, almost all of which are cross-referenced directly to the relevant pages of Surgical Critical Care, as well as other sources of further reading.
