Smile Time for my Intro

After seeing Vitrag post his Intro & on the day Medical Geek crossed the 5000 member mark, I think its time I posted mine too.

I'm Vishal, currently studying in 3rd term of 2nd Year MBBS in Seth G.S. Medical College (attached to K.E.M. Hospital) in Mumbai, India.I'm quite junior to most guys here & I have a long way to go.
I love playing football & enjoy watching F1 & Tennis on TV

Ever since I have had an Internet connection, I've downloaded a vast collection of resources & I'm actively using them, & not just collecting. In fact, I've become so used to reading from the screen that I've not even bought standard texts like Robbins Pathology (though I sometimes think I should have, especially when there's no electricity ). Most of us are not comfortable reading from the screen, but its only a matter of practice.I read the text out loud in order to help me concentrate. If I'm too distracted while studying, I plug my headsets & listen to some soothing music in the background.I prefer to read books by foreign authors for building concepts, but reading books by Indian authors is a standard necessity here in India, otherwise you will end up failing even if you know the entire topic !
So I carry a standard Indian textbook to college along with a copy of the topic that I'm reading from the reference book on the same subject on my cell (using Repligo).

I believe in gaining knowledge by building concepts, like most of us do.But sadly, the medical education system in India relies heavily on memorisation of facts & students are supposed to carry on the tradition of rote learning.I sometimes pay for this practice in the form of average marks, but I'm sure this will be beneficial in the long run, especially as a foundation for PG Entrance Exams.

I first met Vitrag through emule when he sent me a message.I was a member of an earlier site started by him (only4medical) but that had to be closed as it was on a free public domain or something.I was among the very first members of this forum, even before it was opened to the public. Its nice to see the phenomenal growth which this site has undergone.Apart from RxPg, this is surely the biggest Indian medical forum, which has become a center for online medical discussion & sharing of knowledge & resources for medicos all around the world. There are many medical forums out there, but very few are so interactive.
Its heartening to see quite a lot of Indian members here, coz very few students in India look beyond their textbooks & actually use the vast sea of resources on the Internet to their advantage.

Many thanks to Vitrag for creating this wonderful community.

Well, enough about me !
