Was using GPRS to confirm contraversial answers & read new topics

-What was your reading schedule? How many weeks for different subjects? Which books/materials in each subject? How many time have you revised?

No fixed schedule..Reading 12-16 hours daily...
I've given more focus on Preclinical subjects - 1st and 2nd yr..
Regarding IAMS notes , i've mentioned before..

      Anatomy | 8-9 days | Across + BDC Ref
      Physiology | 7-8 days | Across + Ganong Ref
      Biochem | 7-8 days | Across + Satyanarayan Ref
      Forensic | 3-4 days | Across + Reddy Ref
Patho | 11-12 days | subjectwise AA + Robbins Ref

Pharmac | 14-15 days | subjectwise AA + antimicrobial onwards Sparsh Gupta

      Psychiatry | 4 days | Across + IAMS Notes
      Radio | 4 days | Across
      Skin | 4 days | Across
      Anaesthesia | 4 days | Across
-What have you read in last month and last week before exam?

I started Revision in mid october and finished in mid december..second revision of subjects which i had read before AIIMS Nov..
Last 10 days - AA+MK only Q&A & My own notes, 2008-10 papers with explainations

Last day - CD4, chromosomes, IPC, artery-vein, aminoacid general, milestones, staging, new drugs & my notes..

-Have you joined any coaching classes? If yes, which one? Advice others regarding pros and cons of coaching.

      Yes, IAMS.

Have you found it useful or you think you could have got similar rank even if you've not joined coaching. Do you recommend others to join same or other coaching.
      I found it useful.
      I dont know..
Yes, i recommend others to join IAMS..

      Pros & Cons of Coaching
Pros - reading schedule maintained, competitive environment, weekly tests, state&all india rank, time management of paper
Cons - Irregular schedule of lectures, breaking subjects in topics, frequent & 10-12 of wrong answers in weekly tests as well as in FTS..
Some faculties are gr8 and some are time wasting..

-Have you joined any subjectwise/grand test series or both? If yes, which one? If you find test by other institute is better, then provide your feedback please.

Bhatia subjectwise test series during internship..FTS test is best @ bhatia among all institutes..
Bouceback series (repeat questions of papers) of DAMS can be useful, though i've not joined..

-Any other advice and tips you want to share.

Revision is the only main thing, if you have revised, you can get rank..concentrate more on preclinical subjects..never read new things in last 1-2 months..never make mistakes in repeat questions..Dont make more than 3 silly mistakes..ideally 0...
Minimum 290-295 questions shd be attempted..

How should one prepare during internship?
Study seriously during internship..Read Notes of Coaching if u've joined any & Read AA+MK 1993-2011 exclusively with explainations 2-3times..It's false belief that one can't crack AIPG with internship..
I've read subjectwise during internship but it didnt help..bcz i wasn't able to revise & comeplete all subjects..but it helped next yr..

that means these r useful only after clearing final mb.. Now i'm using self assessment n reviews of arora or pulse publications for individual subjects along with standard text books for university exam preparation.
Is this ok or do i need to anything extra?

AA, MK papers are of pulse pub only..
you're reading subjectwise books, which already more than AA+MK as it includes all papers
But more precise you read, more you'll remember.

If you're UG student yet, i suggest you to focus on theory part as it's base of entrance mcqs. Read standard theory books and do mcqs if u get time.

Default Interview of Dr.Vitrag Shah - My Preparation Strategy - 1031UR in AIPGME 2011

-What's your overall and catagorywise Rank?
      UR 1031 & 1047 Overall Rank

-Which branch/College have u opted for? Are you going to change in second counseling?
General Medicine @ M.P.Shah MC, Jamnagar. I may change college in second counseling but branch is fixed.

-What's your future plan? Determined for superspecilization or not decided yet?
      DM Cardiology

-List any other exams you have given apart from AIPGME & Rank in other exams. Among all exams, Which was your main focus?

      AIIMS Nov - 49.33% , VNSGU - 22th Rank , AFMC-172th, ComedK - 721th

-Is this your first attempt? If not, how many years you've prepared after internship?

Second attempt. 1 year after internship.

-Is it possible to crack AIPGME in first attempt?
Yes, definitely if your internship is liberal & you manage time wisely..

-Which books you've read apart from AA & MK?

      I've written subjectwise list below.

-Do you recommend reading any notes or reference books? How to read them?

IAMS Notes For Physiology, Biochem, FM, Micro - General Micro, Pathology-GIT,Liver section only (not recommend to non-IAMS), Ophthal, Ortho, Pediatrics(2 notes), Medicine - CVS,CNS important topics, Radio- written notes of lecture, skin - Important topics only.

PSM, Obs-Gyn, Psychiatry notes are good but i've not read.

Anaesthesia note is good too but i've read ajay yadav textbook itself so havent read IAMS Note, but if u dont read ajay yadav textbook, you must read iams note as Dr.Ajay Yadav in IAMS faculty, so textbook is covered mostly in notes.

      Reference Books -

      Gray's , Netter's Atlas - Figures + Retro

Lippincott Biochem - Whole genetics & All frequently asked topics, Figures ( Must read)

Ganong - All frequently asked topics + Retro

Robbins - Tables in general patho section + Retro

PSM - Park - Extensive Retro

Surgery - Schwarts,Sabiston,Maingot for GIT - Only Retro but extensive , Tables from schwarts and sabiston

Harrison- All Tables & frequently asked topics + Retro

Nelson & Cloherty - All frequently asked topics + Retro
I've not read Meharban Singh but i recommand it for neonate section.

      Williams Obs+Gyn, Novak Gyn - frequently asked topics(Specially Cancer,Menorrhagia) + Retro

Devita Oncology - All Important Cancer management section including followup and prognosis, Read staging from AJCC 7th edition book if possible.

Anaesthesia - Whole Ajay Yadav. Morgan +- Miller - All frequently asked topics, Box + Retro-Most imp (New questions asked from ref topics only)

Kaplan and Sadock's Psychiatry - All Tables and frequently asked topics

emedicine (App named medscape in apple/android OS) - Extensive Retro specially for diagnosis and management of important topics (50% of newer questions will be covered)
For rest subjects, I've read Retro Ref (MCQs-->Topic review from Ref Book), I've mentioned books below. I've not read Retro Ref in Skin & Radiology.

-Role of internet and gadgets in your preparation

Major Role of iPodTouch in my preparation.
I was reading most ref books, emedicine topics (schwartz, harrison as separate application with separate section for figures, tables), pretest application, Drug details(Advertse effect, pharmacokinetics, indicationd etc from Lexi/Medscape/skyscape app) etc.. from my iPodTouch.

Also useful to confirm contraversial answers & read new topics.

-What was your reading schedule? How many weeks for different subjects? Which books/materials in each subject? How many time have you revised?

No fixed schedule..Reading 12-14 hours daily...

      My strategy

I've given more focus on Theory topics rather than on quantity of MCQs or just Q&A.
I was reading MCQs to solve them, not to mug up answers. You shd have "why" and "why not" question everytime in mind. Always exclude 3 options rather than finding one answer among 4 options. It'll give you 3 new mcqs/1 solved mcq.Always make a list of new classification, scoring system, grading etc. Make list of chromosomes,CD counts, most common site, prognosis, staging etc and read 1 day before exam.

SSS = Smart Study Series By Elsevier Publication.

AA = Amit-Ashish & MK = Mudit Khanna by pulse publication

Elsevier Synopsis = Elsevier Comprehensive Guide to PGMEE - 4 Volumes - Very good alternative for IAMS notes, so must have for non-iams students - Use only for synopsis not for mcqs

I don't recommand Across (Arora Publication) in any subjects though i've read in few subjects.

Regarding IAMS notes & Ref books , i've mentioned before..

Must read - AA+MK papers in all subjects from 1993 upto 2011- Confirm Answers from ref as wrong answers there in many papers

You can read pretest in medicine,surgery,anatomy,obs-gyn, psychiatry.

Anatomy | 8-10 days | SSS + Elsevier Synopsis, BDC,Gray's Ref , Moore Ref for Embryo| BDC MCQs

      Physiology | 8 days | AA-MK papers + Elsevier Synopsis + Ganong Ref | Ganong MCQs, Guyton MCQs(Not needed), VijyaJoshi MCQs(CVS,RS,MusculoSkel. system)

      Biochem | 7-8 days | AA-MK Papers, Across + Lippincott,Harper Ref | LippinCott MCQs

Forensic | 4 days | AA-MK Papers, Across, Elsevier Synopsis + Reddy Ref | Subramanyam MCQs (Book by Dr.Sumit Seth is also good)

Patho | 12-14 days | subjectwise AA + Robbins 8th Ed Ref | HarshMohan MCQs

Micro | 12-14 days | Rachana Chaurasia + AnantNarayan,Jawetz Ref, NMS Immuno Ref

Pharmac | 14-15 days | Gobind Garg + Katzung-->G.G-->KDT Ref | You can read KDT MCQs(i havent read.)

ENT | 4-5 days | Sakshi Arora (not recommended as time consuming) + Dhingra Ref, I recommend only AA+MK papers for ENT with retro Ref, Do Dhingra MCQ book if u do only papers, Elsevier Synopsis 2 pages of one liners

Ophth | 6-7 days | Across + Khurana Ref | Khurana MCQs, Elsevier Synopsis 2 pages of one liner

PSM | 12-13 days | Vivek Jain + Park Ref, Elsevier Synopsis last 20 pages

Medicine | 22-24 days | subjectwise AA(CVS,CNS,Endocrine,Hematology are must read) + Harrison,Braunwald Cardio Ref | Harrison Pretest (Atleast Read CVS,Endocrine,Hemat)

      Surgery | 14-15 days | subjectwise AA + Schwarts,Sabiston,Maingot Ref, Devita Onco Ref | Pretest / Schwartz-Sabiston MCQ Book

Pedia | 9-10 days | AA + MK | Ghai,Nelson,Cloharty ref | Nelson MCQs (Specially CVS,Neonatology-Critical Care) (Elsevier Synopsis is also good alternative)

      Obs-Gy | 11-12 days | Sakshi Arora for both + Williams,Novak,Dutta,Shaw,TeLinde Ref

      Ortho | 5-6 days | AA-MK papers, Across + Maheshwari,Campbell ref & eponyms pages , Elsevier Synopsis & SSS is also good

Psychiatry | 4 days | AA-MK papers, Across , Elsevier Synopsis + Kaplan-Saddok Ref, Pretest MCQs for neurosis and psychosis chapters

Radio | 3-4 days | Sumer Sethi book, No Ref. Elsevier Synopsis is also good

Skin | 3 days | AA-MK papers, Elsevier Synopsis, No Ref

      Anaesthesia | 4 days | AA-MK papers, Ajay Yadav + Millar,Morgan Ref
-What have you read in last month and last week before exam?

I started Revision in First Week of November. Due to some problems i wasnt able to read for 14-15 days in November & so I wasnt able to finish all subjects before AIPGME-2011. I've read AA-MK papers subjectwise for all subjects after finishing subject for subjectwise book during revision.

eg. If i've given 5days to Obs-Gyn in revision and i have finished 60% sakshi arora in 3-4 days, in 1-2days i've read only AA-MK Q&A.

Last week - My own notes, 2008-10 papers with explainations

Last day - List of CD4, chromosomes, HLA, MC Sites, IPC, artery-vein, milestones, staging, Prognosis, new drugs & my notes..

-Have you joined any coaching classes? If yes, which one? Advice others regarding pros and cons of coaching.

      Yes, IAMS.

Have you found it useful or you think you could have got similar rank even if you've not joined coaching. Do you recommend others to join same or other coaching.
I found it ok..Some faculties were very good, some were just ok and some were bad..

But i think if i've not joined IAMS, i could have got more time for revision and got better rank.

I recommend others to join IAMS only if they cant read on their own, if you're determined and can read without coaching, no need to join, You'll get 60+ days more to read if you dont join coaching.

      Pros & Cons of Coaching
Pros - reading schedule maintained, competitive environment, weekly tests, state&all india rank, time management of paper

Cons - Irregular schedule of lectures, frequent & 10-12 of wrong answers in weekly tests as well as in FTS..

Some faculties are good and some are time wasting..

Revision is the only main thing, if you have revised, you can get rank..Concentrate more on Frequently Asked Topics, Not Questions only...Don't read new things in last month..never make mistakes in repeat questions..Dont make more than 3-4 silly mistakes..ideally it shd be 0..

Never get depressed, discus mcqs on phone with your friends, always think positive..

Minimum 290-295 questions shd be attempted..But if u're sure you can get 230-240 confirmed correct answers, you can leave rest question but you wont be getting second round to calculate these during paper. So it's safe to attempt 290+ questions.

60+% needed to get below 1500 and 65+ needed to get rank below 500 and around 70% to get in top 50 according to last 5 years results..

How should one prepare during internship?

Study seriously during internship..Read Notes of Coaching if u've joined any & Elsevier synopsis if you've not joined coaching. Read AA+MK 1993-2011 exclusively with explainations 2-3times..It's not true that one can't crack AIPG with internship..

I've read only AA+MK Q&A only, nothing else with same belief that i cant crack during internship..but even if you cant crack during internship, it's going to help a lot next yr after internship, so give your 100% during internship.

I've started sincere preparation from April 2010 after my internship finished in march, so just 9 months (April-->December)of sincere preparation (including 14-15 days of November, during which i wasnt able to read even single page/day) has given me 1047th rank. So you just need 9 months to get within 1000 rank.

Default Interview of Dr.Viral Shah - 190 in AIPGME 2011

-What's your overall and catagorywise Rank?
      UR 189 and overall 190

-Which branch/College have u opted for? Are you going to change in second
      counseling?

MD Pediatrics @SMS,jaipur. not yet decieded to change.

-What's your future plan? Determined for superspecilization or not decided
      yet?

i will do DM but in which branch not decided.

-List any other exams you have given apart from AIPGME & Rank in other exams.
Among all exams, Which was your main focus?

In state pg-vnsgu 12th rank, aiims nov. 56%, jipmer 138th rank, comedk
      132/180(marks)
obviously my main focus was AIPG after that JIPMER.

-Is this your first attempt? If not, how many years you've prepared after
      internship?

      2nd attempt.1 year after internship.

-Is it possible to crack AIPGME in first attempt?

Yes, definitely prepare best during internship, bunk at clinics whatever you
do but get the time for reading

-Which books you've read apart from AA & MK?
      I've written subjectwise list below.

-Do you recommend reading any notes or reference books? How to read them?
ANAT.-across and IAMS lec. notes though i don't like across but i cant find

other good alternative. if you can try.

PHYSIO-across and for ref. Ganong must do its MCQ esp. of 23rd edition

BIOCHEM-IAMS notes for those who are attending it otherewise across is very
      good

PHARMEC- Sparsh gupta mostly, for CNS and anticancer drugs read AA pharmec.
if you get time read anticancer chap. from harrison 1st part its very very
      good. i have read it.

MICRO-general micro,fungi-IAMS notes for parasitology also add rachana
      chaurasiya(RC) bact and virus- RC

      PATHO-haematology,neoplasia,genetics-IAMS notes gen.path and rest
      liver.kidney AA patho.

      FM-IAMS notes

      ENT-sakshi arora

opthal.-IAMS notes but not all whatever sir has marked in lec.
use khurana and parson freely for developing your concepts.

PSM-Park latest edition mcq from AA psm though i dont like it many ans. wrong
still in compare to other books for only mcq its gd.

MEDICINE-CVS and CNS iams class notes and aa medicine subject.
      for other topics aa medicine

SURGERY-GUT,gen.surg.- iams notes for others aa surg.
try your best to solve mcq from pre test Schwarts,Sabiston must do iams notes
      for surg.oncology

      PAEDIA-IAMS notes very good

OG-smart study series book by dr.punit bhojani very good book to finish the
      sub.in time

      ORTHO,SKIN,ANEST.,PSYCHI.- IAMS notes

      RADIO- IAMS class notes

you have read ref. book for 4 and half years if you still read it you will
get another 4 and half yrs to clear AIPG prepare wisely. Where ever you find
difficulty in your concepts then only use them.

-Role of internet and gadgets in your preparation.

they are very useful if you are good at them. i am not so i have not use
      except for anat.-mnemonics

-What was your reading schedule? How many weeks for different subjects? Which
books/materials in each subject? How many time have you revised?

No fixed schedule..Reading 10-12 hours daily...
i have started revision on 21st oct. and completed on 26th december
thereafter i started AA and MK paper i could only read it from 2003-2010
papers. i know this is not good but i have more concentrate on revision..best
you can do is finish your 1st reading at septem. end start revision from oct.
complete it on 30 nov. and start AA,MK from 1st dec. this was for post intern
batch for intern. students start AA,MK from starting go retro concentrate on
FAQ topics esp. last 5 years... see in AIPG que. change ans. may change but
      >80% que. topics remain same..dont make repeat que. wrong i have made about
5-7 repeats wrong that was by biggest blunder.

-Have you joined any coaching classes? If yes, which one? Advice others
regarding pros and cons of coaching.

Yes, IAMS. i have found it very useful..

-Have you joined any subjectwise/grand test series or both? If yes, which
one? If you find test by other institute is better, then provide your
      feedback please.

no. i couldnt get time but bhatia grand test seems good.

-Any other advice and tips you want to share.

for other things Dr. vitrag and Dr. pallav interview is very good. apart from
this must read interview of dr. anvita pauranik 2009 aipg topper extremely
good esp. for those who dont want to attend coaching class..

How should one prepare during internship?

i have not studied seriously during it.i was thinking i could not crack it
with internship which was very big mistake.. i have read abt last 4 months
very seriously before 2010 aipg exam and done aa,mk of last 5 years in
subject wise i have read SARP(skin, anes.,radio, psychi) well from across but
now i dont recommend across for them plus as i like pharmec. very much i have
      almost read thoroughly sparsh gupta..

these are my views only they are not ideal..one imp.thing i was always an
average student i couldn't get any time good rank in my class(even in top 20)
just hard work faith in god made it possible for me..see this 9 months as
your intrauterine life and make sure at term baby(result) comes out must be healthy
      not IUGR..
your friend circle is very imp. i am very thankful to my friends.
