The Primary and Final examinations are conducted twice a year in the month of June and December. The advertisements are given in the leading News Papers in January and July for the sale of information Bulletin and application form. This will be available from the Office of the Board at Ansari Nagar New Delhi-110029 and also from the branches of Central Bank of India in different parts of the country as may be notified in the advertisement. The application forms can be collected by remitting a Bank Draft of Rs.500/- drawn in favour of National Board of Examinations payable at New Delhi.



The Examinations are :



i) CET-NBE-This is an entrance examination and

ii) Final Examination- This is an exit examination.



5.1 Centralised Entrance Test (CET-NBE)



5.1.1 ELIGIBILITY :



a. Candidates who are in possession of medical degrees from Indian Universities registerable in the First Schedule of the Medical Council of India Act 1956 and have completed one year of internship.



b. Candidates who are in possession of medical degrees from Indian Universities registerable in the First Schedule of the Medical Council of India Act 1956 and will be completing one year of internship before the NBE-CET examinations of the Board to be held on 12th June 2005.



c. The candidates who are in possession of degrees from foreign universities and have completed their one year of internship and are registered with MCI (on permanent basis) at the time of applying will also be eligible to appear for the examination.


CET-NBE will comprise of a written test of MBBS standard. The examination will include all subjects taught during the MBBS course including pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical. Approximate weightage given to each subject in the two papers is as follows:





Paper–1 Basic Sciences and Community Medicine


Anatomy - 24

Physiology - 30



Biochemistry - 12

Pathology - 24

Microbiology - 24

Pharmacology - 24

Forensic Medicine - 12

Community Medicine/SPM - 30

Total 180



Paper-2 Clinical Sciences



Medicine including Psychiatry,

Dermatology and Venereology - 45

Paediatrics - 15

Surgery including Orthopaedics

Ansesthesiollogy, Radio-diagnosis

and Radiotherapy - 60

Obstetrics and Gynaecology - 30

Ophthalmology - 15

ENT - 15

Total 180


Each paper will have 180 Single Response Multiple Choice Questions. A response sheet (OMR) will be given with the question paper. The Response sheet for this section contains 180 boxes. Each box refers to a single item and is numbered accordingly. Please remember that there is only one single correct response to each item. Indicate the correct response by darkening the appropriate circles with black or blue ball point pen. Use of Pencil is prohibited. There is no negative marking.


5.1.2 Date of Examination



CET-NBE will be held in June and December on Sunday, following the Second Saturday of the month.



5.1.3 Declaration of CET-NBE Results



The result of CET-NBE will be declared (pass or fail) of the candidates within one month from the date of the examinations. Candidates declared pass in CET-NBE examinations and those who have passed their primary examinations earlier will directly contact the institution/hospital for admission for getting required training. The result will be sent to each candidate individually by post and also can be seen on website www.natboard.nic.in. It can also be seen at Ansari Nagar, New Delhi Office of the Board.



5.1.4 Guidelines for Selection of CET/Primary pass candidates.



The restriction on the validity Period of Primary Pass candidates has been removed forthwith the validity of New Procedure (CET) has been removed.



The CET/Primary Pass candidates will apply directly to the NBE Accredited Institutions. NBE Accredited Institutions will select the candidates based on the applications received from CET/Primary passed candidates. The institutions will evolve a merit list taking into consideration the aptitude of candidates and previous experience in the speciality. The institutions will send the list of selected candidates to NBE for registratrion within one month of candidate’s joining.

5.2. FINAL EXAMINATION

The National Board of Examinations (NBE)at present conducts examinations in the following specialities leading to the award of Diplomate of National Board.

5.2.a BROAD SPECIALITIES

23. Social and Preventive medicine

24. Maternal Child Health

25. Health Administration

Including Hospital Administration

26. Family Medicine*

27. Immuno-hematolgy & transfusion medicine



· For Family Medicine (New Regulations) separate information booklet with revised criteria is being prepared . However for the candidates appearing for final examination of Family Medicine in June 2005 there will be no change and they shall be governed previous rules.

5.2.1 Eligibility for Final Examination

5.2.1.a CET – NBE/Primary Pass



Applicants for Final Examination should have passed CET/Primary Examinations of the Board and are provisionally registered with the Board and thereafter should have completed three years of training/completing three years of training by 15th September 2005 from an institution or hospital recognized by MCI/University/NBE as suitable for postgraduate degree training maintaining student teacher ratio of 1:1 i.e. one Postgraduate teacher can take one Postgraduate candidate either for the University or for the Board.





5.2.1.b MD/MS/DM/MCh



Applicants who have passed their MD/MS/DM/MCh or have completed three years of training or completing three years of training as an MD/MS/DM/MCh candidate on or before 15th September 2005 can apply for the June 2005 examination of the Board. However they have to provide a certificate of passing MD/MS/DM/MCh on completion of three years of training or undergoing three years of training as an MD/MS/DM/MCh candidates alongwith the application form. The result of the theory examination of candidates who are undergoing three years of training will be declared on production of three years of completion certificate.



Alternatively



Candidates desirous of appearing in a subject other than the subject of their passing MD/MS examination are eligible to appear in the final examination provided they have undergone training for a period of two and half years or undergoing two and half years of training which may be completed by 15th September 2005, in the subject of examination in a hospital/institution recognized by MCI/Univ./NBE for Postgraduate Degree Training.





5.2.1.c Diploma Pass



(i) Diploma holders having Diploma qualification which is recognized by MCI/Univ. are eligible to appear in the Final Examination in the same subject provided they have undergone additional training for a period of two years, maintaining student teacher ratio of 1:1, equivalent to that of 2nd and 3rd year of Resident training required for MD/MS qualifications, after passing their Diploma in their subjects, in a Medical College recognized by MCI/Univ. for Postgraduate degree training in the subject of examination after having been registered with the Board. They are exempted from taking CET-NBE examination.



(ii) Candidates with a PG diploma qualification which is recognized by MCI/University working as paid Sr. Resident/Registrar, Specilaity Medical Officer in a NBE approved institutions for DNB training for a period of two years after acquisition of their requisite qualifications provided they produce a certificate from the Head of the Institution to this effect, after being registered with the Board, failing which the candidate will be declared ineligible and fee forfeited. They are exempted from taking CET-NBE Examinations.



(iii) Candidates holding a PG diploma qualifications which is recognized by MCI/University and have been working in a Medical College/Hospital recognized by MCI/Univ. for Postgraduate degree training as Research Officer/Pool Officer with clinical responsibilities same as that of a postgraduate resident and maintaining student teacher ratio of 1:1 can also apply provided they furnish a certificate for the requisite period of training before 15th Sept. 2005 (two years after passing PG Diploma) duly signed by the Head of the Department and countersigned by the head of the Institution after being Registered with the Board. They are exempted from taking CET-NBE Examinations.



(iv) In case the subject offered for DNB is different than the speciality in which PG Diploma (recognized by MCI/Univ. is obtained, the candidate will have to complete three years of training after obtaining registration with Board from a hospital/institution recognized by MCI/Univ/NBE for Postgraduate degree training. However, such candidates are exempted from appearing CET/Primary pass candidates but will be treated at par with Primary/CET passed candidates.



(v) Diploma (Not recognized by MCI/Univ.) holders are not exempted from CET Examination of the Board and as such cannot be registered as a DNB candidate on the basis of their Diploma qualification.

cud u tell me how to prepare for the xams of dnb i m doin ma internship now how can i study n prepare for it...plizz help me...m interstd in surgical field...wud like to get admission in orthopaedix

is it worth gettin a degree of dnb ortho or shud i go for ms ortho wat do u all suggest people...i mean whom wud institutions or hospitals recruit ?a candidate wid dnb ortho or a candidate wid ms ortho?

i wanna apply for usmle but i dont think it is possible to study for both indian exams as well as for usmle.....the approach for both the exams is tottally diffrt
