Question Elearning in medical colleges

Hi,
What do you guys think of elearning in medical colleges.?
What should the structure be? How many colleges are using it,,and in what way?
What would be the best way to introduce elearning modules in colleges?

elearning is to be exploited further for medical studies. The scope is unbound. The interactive medical softwares, videos, animations and so on are the easiest way to make concepts clear and to get the full gist of the topic.

But elearning should not replace the conventional techniques of learning (white board-marker method). The lecturer-student interaction is a must especially for medical studies.

But the thing i hate the most is that some lecturers prepare powerpoint slides and just read them out in the lecture hall. They don't explain anything. Once the lights go off, everybody falls asleep.

It's difficult to say anything about the structure and i don't have data about the colleges using them.I don't think emodules are available for medical studies. I haven't seen this on the prospectus of any university so far.

i could not agree more about powerpoint presentations. I have a difficult time in a staying awake in a dark room for four hours. we still have one or two old school professors that use a whiteboard to illustrate concepts, and those professors have the highest attendance too. what is the point of just listening to people read off of a powerpoint? I can do that in the comfort of my own house if the lecturer is not going to add anything to the notes.

but online and electronic resources are awesome for animations, illustrations, and much of the information is more up to date.

I actually tried to go paperless for the year. I bought myself a used tablet pc, and wrote all of my notes off of that. I thought that it would help to take a weight off, and be good for the environment. But I was getting pounding headaches from looking at the computer screen all day. now I just print out my notes and read off of that and paper books, and use the electronic resources to supplement my learning. this has been much more effective for me.

Thanks for your input, guys.
Could you also tell me what all interactivity would you expect from any elearning interface of a medical lecture?
like forward,rewind,notes,etc etc...
Regards,
NeeL.

Haha....Why don't you share some of the softwares on your website our here ??? I've seen them and they are really expensive !!!!

I prefer animations, audio lectures and slide shows....If it is a procedure, then a video along with explanatory voice is the best.......

Thanks Amal,,but we are also trying to improve our interactivity and the product as a whole.
Of course, we do have the things you mention you prefer, like videos of surgical procedures.
But Expensive? How do you know our prices?

There are also a lot of web resources out there for medical elearning and my del.icio.us account marks most of them.
It is a good idea for everyone to collect a list of his/her own databases which can later be easily searched. Its like your own personal WWW.

Thumbs up Building your personal Knowledge cache

Hi,
In order to properly utilize all the information which we come across every day, I suggest we all build our own cache via google notebook and del.icio.us bookmarkers.
One can use a firefox plugin for ease of bookmarking/searching.

The advantage with these applications is that they can be later shared amongst users/ network building.

Cheers,
Neel.
