We recently had a back to back ER visit.
Visit 1-Arrival at the ER at 1500 she went in with sever stomach pain which has gotten worse over the course of a few months. The did a standard urine test, CBC, CT scan of her abdomen, and read over her chart. She's currently just finishing up antibiotics and has been on hydrocodone for acute pain for about 2 months at the most. The Dr reported to us that the CT scan showed a blockage which was obviously from the pain med that she's on. She has bowel movement's daily or at the worst case every other day. After I had explained we're waiting to see a GI doc later this month because the GI doc is out of the country (doesn't make me feel that confident/safe but oh well), he decided to give her Mirilax for her stopped up bowels, Haldol for pain, and Benadryl to relax her. We left and I was so upset. By the time we got home and it's less that 10min she was out of it. I had to carry her inside and she slept all night with no memory of the night before.
Skip forward to the next day and she got up early and went to eat with her mom then all of a sudden about 1500 she came home with trouble breathing, swollen tongue, and it seemed to be anaphylactic shock from my experience and her moms as well. Her mother works at the hospital and has for almost 30 years and my years of military TCCC and real world care in non permissive environments. We gave her Benadryl pills and after about 25min she couldn't take it so we moved on to the next visit.
Visit 2-We happened to get the same young doctor and he informed us that it was just the Haldol. Apparently it's not a big deal to him so they have her Benadryl IV which helped very quickly thank GOD. I did talk the doctor into doing a WBC test due to the reoccurrence of c-diff within a couple months, out of the 3 times, 2 of them were the same strain and the other was the worst. The WBC test came back as a 9 which is great! That is the only good news I've herd in forever. I just am so furious and am going to refuse to pay for this visit as well as she still has the same pain that we were in there for yesterday. I'm not sure the protocol for this place of if what he said was even true.
If anybody has any similar experiences with those meds or with a healthcare facility of similar quality please help guide me down the right path.
I just want her feeling the way she was and being only 26yo. If there is something very serious wrong, which I believe there is then we need to kick it in the butt ASAP.
Feel free to PM me and if you can give advice or feel it easier to text or just email we can do that as well.
