Medicine will harm people in the long run by helping them in the short run.

1.Mutation rates have increased over the past 30 years probably owing to increased use of x-rays and chemical mutagens.

2.Man has interfered with natural selection in every way by changing the envrt'l conditions under which ppl live and by his advances in technology, public health and medical care services.

3.More lives are now being saved by advances in medical sciences than ever before.Carriers of hereditary diseases, malformations and constitutional weaknesses are able to survive and pass their genes to their progeny.

Public health measures are thus decreasing the selection rates and increasing the genetic burden. This has led some scientists to prophecy that-
Medicine will harm people in the long run by helping them in the short run.

    -Park.Chapter on Genetics and Health
O you who believe! Seek help in patience and As-Salāt (the prayer). Truly! Allāh is with As-Sābirin (the patient ones). (Al-Baqarah 2:153)
